Franchise-only lists miss the buy-here pay-here store on the frontage road. That store is often the one who will take the meeting.
One hunt, both kinds of rooftop
Search a city or ZIP and independents land on the same list as the franchise row. You are not reconciling a new-car directory with a second file of used-car lots. If the map missed a store, add the lot yourself and it stays in the book.
Mark the ones that matter
Tag BHPH, high volume, or new ownership when you see it. Those words are private. Next month you can hunt the independents you have not walked instead of driving past them on the way to the same Ford store.
A radius pulls the independent just outside the ZIP you typed. A ZIP search still keeps a rooftop that sits inside the area when the listed ZIP on the sign is wrong.
Put them on a route, not a wishlist
Check the independents worth the stop, cap the run at 10, and go. Save that route if Thursday is always the independent day. Prospecting only counts if the address is a door you reached.
